It’s a big decision choosing the right place to work. We know – we’re in the business of helping people choose every day. And so we understand the importance of creating an environment at Charterhouse where every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
Here’s a flavour of what you can expect when you join our team.
Investment in People
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Without brilliant people, we cannot do brilliant work. We need you, your unique skills and abilities and your way of looking at the world. At Charterhouse, we have a fully developed learning and development strategy that seeks to provide our team with the best-in-class training for a successful career in recruitment and broader business management. We have an Internal 5 day program for consultants that seeks to provide a thorough grounding around the mechanics of recruitment.
This in-house training is augmented by a comprehensive suite of external training courses. We have partnered with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), to deliver customised pathways for learning, for all our staff. AIM are leaders in their field, having trained over 20,000 professionals throughout their history. In consultation with AIM, we have identified learning pathways for every role in our business
Each consultant receives over $15,000 of external training across 19 days on campus. Our Managers receive over $27,000 of training delivered over 33 days on-site at one of their campuses, and each Director receives over $12,000 of role specific on-campus training across 15 days. Our objective is clear; to enable you to become the best versions of yourselves.
We want you to stay with us for the duration, too, which is why we offer clearly defined career paths to our people, supported by quarterly reviews and 360 feedback. If you are after promotion to manager or director level, we’ll provide you with the tools and support to help you on your way. We also encourage lateral moves across disciplines and offer opportunities to individuals wishing to specialise in business development.
You’ll be part of a dedicated team from day one, working, learning and achieving together.
Commitment to Diversity
There are no labels, bias or judgment at Charterhouse. We are one of only two recruitment businesses with membership of Diversity Council Australia, and we actively promote diversity in all aspects both within our company and externally. Our management team is 42% female, and we are continuing to work to reduce the gender gap. We are also seeking ways to promote cultural awareness and to encourage indigenous employment. Our team also works alongside WithYouWithMe to place veterans in rewarding roles in the civilian sector.
You can be sure of a safe and inclusive environment at Charterhouse, as well a genuine focus on diversity across all our business activities.
we're winners
In both 2018 and 2019, Charterhouse have been recognised as a Winner for Employer of Choice (EOC) in the Australian Business Awards.
Now in their fourteenth year, The Australian Business Awards are an annual all-encompassing awards program which recognises organisations that demonstrate the core values of business innovation, product innovation, technological achievement and employee engagement via a set of comprehensive award categories. The EOC accolade recognises organisations which have developed workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention.
Charterhouse is honoured to be named as an Employer Of Choice Winner in the Australia Business Awards 2019 and it is a testament to those that work here that we’ve been able to secure this for a 2nd consecutive year.
One year ago when Charterhouse secured its first Employer Of Choice Award it was in direct response to nearly two years of focused effort around how our business attracts, engages with and retains its people. We knew that this was a journey, and that we were very much at the early stages of it, and the Award signified that we were moving in the right direction. Our belief today is as it was then; that this is still very much a journey we are on and it is a direct reflection of our continued efforts and it reaffirms that our thinking and strategy around human experience is sound.
Flexible Career Paths
We recognise that every individual has a different idea when it comes to careers. You may want to experience different disciplines; or perhaps you are attracted to a more commercial-style role; or maybe you’ve always aimed to move up the ladder to senior management. At Charterhouse, we offer a clearly defined career path, with options to move both laterally and vertically, or to specialise in business development. And we encourage all our people to proactively manage their careers through weekly one-on-ones and quarterly reviews with their line managers.
Our managers are promoted on merit, not billings. You need to internally interview for the role, and we take a variety of factors into consideration, such as commitment, consistency, and credibility. Once you are selected onto this pathway, we will upskill you into the role through regular one-on-ones with your line manager, as well as weekly managerial cohort meetings with our CEO Jason. We also provide dedicated support for consultants wishing to move into a business development role, including a mentor program where you will be paired up with a suitable match within the business.
We listen
We believe our best ideas and strategies come from our people, and we value what you have to say. Opportunities to discuss feedback are not limited to meetings. We have an open culture where our managers and directors are available to you at any time.
We also have a more formal system in place, where you can provide structured feedback on your manager via a 6-monthly 360 review. This feedback enables you to build a strong relationship with your manager, which we believe is critical to your success and happiness at work.
Our aim is to create an environment where our people listen to each other and learn from one another.
Unique Company Culture
We want you to be excited about every working day at Charterhouse, so we place a lot of emphasis on company culture. We are all individuals, but we are also a united team with a desire to achieve – and exceed – our goals. We actively encourage strong bonds to form between our people, but we also promote healthy competition. Above all, we continually strive to ensure high levels of employee satisfaction. We are a passionate, tenacious, hard-working, fun-loving bunch. Come and join us!
